Top Ten Botanical Gardens to visit around the World!
We’ve been treating the month of March as if it were the onset of Spring because really, for many of us – it is. It’s the time when our thoughts turn from staying inside and getting cosy with cups of tea to venturing outside and enjoying our patio or garden with ice tea instead! As part of that theme we promised to share a handy list of the Top Ten Botanical Gardens around the world – for those who are willing to venture farther than their own backyard to enjoy a beautiful garden! Top Ten Botanical Gardens Around the World
- Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden, Chonburi Province, Thailand: This stunner simply must be seen to be believed. Check out the many pictures readily available on the Internet. It just looks so beautiful and more than anything – so peaceful. This would be a true “bucket list” adventure for any garden enthusiast and ranks number one on most of the travel sites we consulted.
- Kew Gardens England – a UNESCO World Heritage Site: One of the originals, Kew Gardens is masterful execution of all things garden related and currently houses one of the largest and most diverse collection of living plants around the world.
- Jardim Botanico, Rio de Janeiro Brazil: Giving Thailand a “run for the money,” some sites listed this location as the number one garden the world over. One of it’s more stunning features is the Avenue of Royal Palms, a 750 metre path of perfectly aligned palm trees all descended from a single palm.
- Singapore Botanic Garden – also a UNESCO site: Celebrating its 160th Anniversary this year these gardens feature a Natural Orchid Garden that is truly something to behold.
- Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Cape Town South Africa : The claim to fame of this particular botanical gardens has to be the amazing Centenary Tree Top Canopy Walkway which takes visitors from the forest floor to high above the tree canopy, providing awesome views of the surrounding mountains.
- The Jardin botanique de Montréal was founded in 1931: Here you’ll find 30 thematic gardens and 10 exhibition greenhouses spread out over 75 hectares that you can cross country ski during winter months!
- Brooklyn Botanical Gardens: Check out “Cherrywatch” on their website to plan the ideal time to view the blooms of their bountiful cherry trees!
- Denver Botanical Gardens: Includes the Centre for Global Initiatives bringing horticultural research to the gardens looking to implement diverse and sustainable programs “achieving global transformation by connecting people with plants.”
Here’s where it started to get a bit tricky. The top eight, as listed above, were commonly shown on a variety of websites, from Conde Naste to Wanderlust, to be the most popular. Beyond that – it started to get a little more unpredictable as to what gardens might “round out” the Top 10. In no particular order are a few more Botanical Gardens you might like to visit including:
- Claude Monet’s Gardens, Giverny, France
- Sydney Australia, located near the iconic Sydney Harbor
- Hawaii – the whole place is one big botanical garden!
- VanDusen – Vancouver’s Botanical Gardens
- The Gardens at the Palace of Versailles
