It is essential to set new goals, new challenges, and new promises to ourselves. Each year we have the opportunity to begin a new chapter of our lives, losing weight, joining the gym, quitting smoking, or reading that book we got last summer; each one of these activities can bring purpose to our lives, especially in a world post-pandemic. But do we always accomplish those goals, or do we just let ourselves go due to the heat of the moment? All is not lost, the human brain can be trained to achieve any goal, and for that, we bring a couple of tips that will help you.

It is worth mentioning that the first three months are crucial to accomplish any goal we set, and to achieve this, motivation is fundamental, and that comes from within. Motivation is the force that we find inside that pushes us to become better without expecting anything in return other than just satisfaction knowing we achieved something meaningful for ourselves.

If you already know your goals for 2022 or have not planned them yet, we have some essential tips that will help you achieve them.

Define your goals and set a date

Take a seat, grab a piece of paper and a pen, and write your goals down. Find a purpose for each one of them and set a specific date, for example: join the gym, be constant, and start February 1st. Doing this will help you to focus on your goals and have that commitment towards them.

Visualize your objective

Picture yourself achieving your goals, live the happiness that comes with it, and see yourself working towards that goal. Positive reinforcement is probably one of the most important things you can do because it motivates us into action.

Do not be hard on yourself

If you miss the date or fail to follow your tasks and fulfill your goals, that does not mean you have to punish yourself and abandon everything. In the end, to be consistent is not about never failing but about never throwing everything away and continuing to work towards your desired outcome.

Create a habit

I know someone somewhere told you before “practice makes perfect,” in reality, practice is nothing if you don’t make it a habit. Our brain is set up to recognize and follow patterns if they are constantly repeated. So the next time you decide to order your coffee without sugar, try repeating it every time you order one. That’s how you create a pattern of everything that will help you be a better you and achieve your new year’s goals.

As James Clear says in his book Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break, “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.” Visualize the objective, be constant, and never give up; it may look hard at first but the more we repeat the action, the closer we are to completing our objective. In the end, we become the person we want to be. This New Year represents an opportunity for change and rebuilding; you know your potential and let’s make this year another year worth living.
