  • Research different styles of dance! There are numerous styles of dance that you can learn. From old-school hip-hop styles to contemporary to trending dances, find what you’re genuinely interested in. Whatever you’re interested in is most likely available somewhere! A tip is to check out video resources on various platforms to get a general sense of particular dance styles.

 

  • Dance on your own, with a partner, or with a group! Dance is truly for everyone and is not limited by the number of people involved. If you’re independent, go solo. Looking for someone to jive with? Check out a partners class. If you’re looking for more of a community, join a dance group and get down with a bunch of friendly dancers!

 

  • Join a local class! Various communities offer local dance classes periodically. It may be through a dance school or a local organization. A single class can be nice as it’s not a year-long commitment with a dance school. It can give you just a taste to see if you enjoy the dance style or not. It can also be a great way to get out for a night and meet other locals in your community!

 

  • Head to a community event! Communities sometimes hold events where a dance class is being taught. Head on down and check it out! It’s a great way to get a taste for a certain style of dance while being involved with the community. Plus, it’s typically free or very cheap so you’ve got nothing to lose!

 

  • Become a member of a local dance school! Are you passionate about dance and want to take regular weekly classes? Join a local dance school! Many schools offer adult classes where you can learn to dance with other adults! Weekly classes allow you to improve over time and form connections with others you see every week!

 

  • Practice at home with online tutorials! The internet has allowed us to have everything at our fingertips! Find an online dance tutorial and follow along. There are often dedicated channels on various platforms that offer multiple videos on one or more dance styles that you can follow along with. This is great if you’re looking for a free or cheaper option than formal paid classes. You can also do this from the comfort of your own home!

 

  • Ask a friend to join! If you have a friend who’s also interested in dance, invite them to tag along! You will have a blast with your friend learning to dance together! The support and encouragement you’ll offer to one another will make for an especially positive and fun experience.

 

  • Ask an experienced dancer to show you the ropes! Do you know someone who’s already an experienced dancer? Ask them if they’d be willing to teach you some moves! Learning to dance with someone you already know and trust makes for a comfortable learning environment.
