It’s April and that means spring has finally arrived! Say goodbye to the cold weather and hello to sunnier days. Now is the perfect time to thaw ourselves from winter hibernation by getting outside with friends and enjoying the good weather. We have 8 ideas for fun things to do with friends to put some spring in your step!

  1. Host a picnic! Spring picnics are a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful weather. Invite your friends and host your picnic potluck style. As the host, you can bring all the blankets, plates, and utensils and leave the food and beverages up to your friends. Be sure to pick a park that isn’t too busy so that you can enjoy your picnic in peace!
  1. Splash in the puddles on a rainy day! There is something so nostalgic about splashing in puddles after a good rain. You don’t need to go far to enjoy this activity! Just put your rubber boots on and head out to the front yard. As you’re splashing away, be sure to take in the fresh scents of spring and the vibrant green shades of the grass and spring blooms after a little water.
  1. Begin your garden prep for spring! Depending on where you live, gardening season may have already begun. But if not, you can start preparing your garden beds for planting in the next couple weeks. Decide on the plants that will live in your garden and purchase any equipment you may require. A pro tip is to clean out your garden beds early by raking away leaves and branches and smoothing out last year’s soil.
  1. Go for a bike ride! Biking is a great way to get around once the weather gets warmer. Grab some friends and bike to a local coffee shop for a fun Sunday activity. Go out on your own and bike on less busy roads to see the local neighbourhoods. It’s great exercise, good for the planet, and gives you an excuse for some fresh air!
  1. Attend a farmers’ market! Now that it’s April, many of the annual farmers’ markets should be starting up as the seasonal produce starts coming in. A quick internet search will tell you which markets in your area are open and which you’ll have to wait a little longer for. Explore the markets on the weekends with friends and stock up on local and fresh ingredients for the week.
  1. Enjoy pancakes at a sugar bush! If you live in a more northern climate, a quintessential spring activity is going to the sugar bush. There are lots of family-owned operations depending on where you live that offer walking trails, a rundown on the process of creating maple syrup, tours inside of their work buildings, and a delicious pancake breakfast. Some even have petting farms and playgrounds, making it fun for the whole family!
  1. Play an outdoor sport! Some sports are just not the same when played indoors and we think everyone can agree on that. Especially when the weather is spectacular! Get outside and play a sport of your choosing such as soccer, pickleball, basketball, or tennis. Depending on the weather, some golf clubs may even be open. Being outdoors is incredibly beneficial for our overall health so take advantage whenever you can!
  1. Check out a festival! While festival season may not be in full swing yet, some have likely begun on weekends. There are numerous free festivals to attend throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Get in on the fun early and start attending the festivals as soon as the weather warms up! With music festivals, flower festivals, and dance festivals, there are sure to be options for everyone.
