Looking to get out and be social? Want a fun activity to try? We’ve got you covered with our monthly activity article.
Each month we will highlight a different activity or event for grown-ups to get out and try. The idea is to get a group of people together to socialize, have fun, and try something new.
Summers are meant to be spent outdoors. I know that can be tough when the humidex is high, but if you can’t spend the day outdoors, there’s always the evening. Bring a blanket or chair, a friend or two and head to a local movie in the park night.
While some require paid admission, many are free and offer the perfect opportunity to get out in the neighbourhood. Themes will vary, but there are usually titles that appeal to the masses. You’ll also have the option to bring your own snacks.
Sitting out under the moon, enjoying the summer breeze, good company, an entertaining movie, it’s a lovely night out. Just be sure to wear long sleeves, pants, socks and some bug spray.
An internet search of “outdoor movie night near me” or “movie in the park [city/town]” will get you started. Another fun option is a drive-in. And while there isn’t much chatting going on during the movie, there is plenty of room for that before and after.
Movies are a great pastime for friends, and especially for new acquaintances. They offer an automatic topic of conversation, a relaxed atmosphere and the social interaction we all need.
