Looking to get out and be social? Want a fun activity to try? We’ve got you covered with our monthly activity article.
Each month we will highlight a different activity or event for grown-ups to get out and try. The idea is to get a group of people together to socialize, have fun, and try something new.
April is National Humor Month, and what better way to celebrate than by heading out to a local comedy club with friends? You will get a fun night out on the town while supporting local and upcoming comedians.
As adults, we don’t laugh nearly as often as we could. In fact, the average child laughs over 400 times a day, whereas the average fifty year old laughs only 40 times per day. Laughter brings us many benefits including reduced levels of stress, increased endorphins (which improve our mood), and can be a great relationship builder.
Going to a comedy club is a sure fire way to get the laughter flowing. The comedians will get you started, but the atmosphere and your friends will keep it going. And if you’re anything like me, the jokes and punch lines will keep you chuckling for days afterwards.
If you don’t know where to go, a simple internet search of “comedy clubs near me” or “open mic night near me” will provide plenty or results for shows. Depending on where you live, you may get results for a local bar or restaurant or a big name comedy club. Prices will vary depending on the level of experience of the comedians as well as the venue.
If you aren’t able to attend a show in person, have some friends over and tune into the Comedy Channel on TV. You will get to see some great acts while still getting the added benefit of time spent with friends.
