Looking to get out and be social? Want a fun activity to try? We’ve got you covered with our monthly activity article.
Each month we will highlight a different activity or event for grown-ups to get out and try. The idea is to get a group of people together to socialize, have fun, and try something new.
When was the last time you painted for fun? Not to redecorate or help the grandchildren, but to create something for yourself?
Paint nights are growing in popularity, and the best part about them is you really don’t need to be much of an artist in order to participate. I know people who can barely draw a stick figure, yet create a mini-masterpiece with the right guidance and instructions.
Grab a friend or two, or even a whole group and sign up for a night out at one of these events. They’re held at various locations all over the country, and a simple internet search of “paint night in my area” should find an event near you.
Often times, they take place at restaurants or pubs, and prices can start as low as $20 (drinks and food will be extra). Another alternative is to host your own! Hosts typically paint for free in exchange for coordinating the event and offering up their home.
Not only will a paint night give you the opportunity to get out and socialize with friends, as well as meet new people, but there are many other benefits as well. For example, did you know that creating art allows the brain to adapt and restructure, enhancing cognition and increasing brain reserve capacity? This means it can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression, while fostering self-esteem.
