Did you know Earth Day is right around the corner on April 22nd? We have 10 simple ways for you and your friends to show the earth some love! It’s more important now than ever to appreciate and care for the nature around us.

  1. Plant a seed. It’s truly as simple as that! Many people will tell you to plant a tree on Earth Day, but we believe all seeds have a positive impact. There are endless options for seeds, with one of our favourites being wildflowers. These are a beautiful way to give back to the earth and can easily be planted in your garden beds.
  2. Attract pollinators to your garden. Pollinators like bees and butterflies are crucial for plant growth and new life on earth. Planting the right types of plants such as flowers like marigolds and sunflowers can help attract pollinators to your garden. Help the environment around your home thrive!
  3. Clean up trash. Littering is unfortunately inevitable in our society. The best thing we can do is spend some time picking it up! Bring a garbage bag with you on a walk and stop to pick up any trash that you come across. This small act helps reduce the amount of waste on the sides of the roads.
  4. Attend an Earth Day event. Earth Day is typically celebrated worldwide, with various events and activities to commemorate the special day! These can include community cleanups, craft markets, or celebrations at local farms. It’s often an easy and fun way to get involved with your local community. Discover what’s happening where you live and grab some friends to attend one of these fun events!
  5. Switch to eco-friendly products. If you’ve been meaning to switch over some of your products, why not do it on Earth Day! Using eco-friendly products are not only better for the environment but are often better for you. They typically use more natural ingredients and pose less overall risk. They’re also usually septic safe if you live in a rural community.
  6. Cut down on waste. When you stop to think about it, we waste a LOT. From food to clothing and everything in between, we buy and toss without even really thinking about it. Now’s the time to change that! Make conscious choices about what you’re purchasing to cut down on waste and only use what you need. Buy good quality basics to create a capsule wardrobe that will last a long time. Plan out your ingredients and pick recipes that use the same ingredients to cut down on weekly food waste. There are many simple steps you can take to have less garbage each week!
  7. Reduce, reuse, recycle. Going along with cutting down on waste, reusing and recycling what you can is a great way to get the most bang for your buck. We’re quick to toss things away but the age-old DIY can help us reuse nearly anything in our homes for a new purpose. Go around your home and see what you don’t feel you need anymore. Do a quick internet search of these items to see hundreds of DIY ideas. This not only cuts down on waste, but also saves you money when you reuse instead of buying new!
  8. Go for a walk. Going for a walk on Earth Day gives you the opportunity to enjoy all that nature has to offer. Let your senses discover what’s around you and feel peaceful and grounded while enjoying the beauty. Taking time to pause and feel grateful for what’s around us can help create lasting change.
  9. Put up a bird feeder. When we talk about Earth Day, we always mention the plants and the pollinators but what about the birds? Put up a bird feeder with nuts and seeds to help feed your local feathered friends. You can either purchase a bird feeder or DIY one by following an online tutorial. Unsure where to start? Your local outdoor and garden store likely has some great tips and resources!
  10. Do some research. A little bit of research can show you endless ideas for helping the earth from easy tasks to lifestyle changes. Find what works for you!
